Free agent fills position of need Safety Sensabaugh started 13 games for Jaguars last year
IRVING - Having already said goodbye to safety Roy Williams and unsure if they will say hello again to Keith Davis, the Cowboys agreed to terms with Gerald Sensabaugh on a one-year deal.

The Cowboys are looking at having Orlando Scandrick play a hybrid safety/cornerback spot this season opposite Ken Hamlin, but Sensabaugh is a true safety. In 50 games with Jacksonville, he had 168 tackles and six interceptions. He started a career-high 13 games last season with four interceptions.

Sensabaugh, 25, has played mostly strong safety but started three games last season at free safety. He played for Cowboys secondary coach Dave Campo and special teams coach Joe DeCamillis in Jacksonville.

He has been arrested three times since 2007, including a February arrest for driving with a suspended license, but it is unlikely he will be punished by the NFL for violating the personal conduct policy, according to a league spokesman.

Davis, a free-agent safety, has visited Kansas City, but the Cowboys might try to keep him because he plays a vital special teams role.

Burnett takes deal with Chargers: Linebacker Kevin Burnett has left the Cowboys and agreed to a two-year contract with San Diego. Burnett's deal is worth $5.5 million with a $2 million signing bonus. His base salaries are guaranteed even if he gets injured or released.

Burnett's agent, Ricky Lefft, said the Cowboys made a late play for the linebacker, but the financial package wasn't good enough.

Oakland, San Francisco, Tennessee, Houston and Green Bay had expressed interest in Burnett, who finished second on the team in special teams tackles with 19.

Staff writer Calvin Watkins contributed to this report.
